Should city expand or enhance parks?

Dec. 9, 2012 at 6:09 a.m.

Construction has blocked a block of Vine St. leading into Riverside Park.

Victoria elected officials spent more than $500,000 to expand the largest park in the city.

It was the most significant parks-specific land purchase in 10 years. The foreclosed property was for sale by Texas Dow Employees Credit Union.

In all, the city council has spent $13.1 million over 10 years on maintaining and developing park infrastructure throughout the city. Meanwhile, the list of essential services, street repairs and utility projects continues to increase.

Has the city placed too much emphasis on recreation rather than maintaining what it already has?
