Food service inspections

The Victoria City-County Health Department Environmental Health Division inspects places where food is served in Victoria, DeWitt, Jackson and Calhoun counties.

In the inspection reports, each violation in the Food Temperature/Time Requirements category is 5 demerits; in the Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements category, 4 demerits; and in the Facility and Equipment Requirements, 3 demerits. Zero is a perfect score, while 100 demerits is the worst possible score.

Each Wednesday, the Advocate publishes inspection results from the previous week. All demerits are reported, but only those in the categories of Food Temperature/Time Requirements and Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements are detailed.



FOOD SERVICE INSPECTIONS FOR WEEK ENDING DEC. 7:

Get & Go Food Mart, 301 E. Broadway St., Cuero. Demerits: 20. Large bags of ice need proper labels. Dispose of out-of-date milk. Need paper towels at hand sink. Need toilet paper in restroom. Store the ice scoop on clean, sanitized surface. Permit needs to be visible to the public. Four facility or equipment violations.

I Stop No. 2, 101 Industrial Blvd., Cuero. Demerits: 18. Need lid and straw on employee drink. Dispose of out-of-date medication. Date-label deli select food. Keep paper towels next to hand sink. Need to wash, rinse and sanitize all dishes. Two facility or equipment violations.

Super Donuts, 1917 John Stockbauer Drive, Victoria. Demerits: 17. Capri Sun needs proper ingredient labels. Don't reuse gloves. Date-label ham with seven-day use-by date. Also need times documented on sausage, tacos, biscuits, etc. Label bucket of bleach water. Need thermometer in Coke cooler holding milk. Cannot use white thank-you bags to store food; use food-grade storage bags. Keep boxes of cups at least four to six inches off floor. Seal around door to storage area. Three facility or equipment violations.

Bloomington General Store, 12985 state Highway 185, Bloomington. Demerits: 12. Ice bags and bread need labels. Dispose of out-of-date baby cereal. Need to date-label lunch meat.

Athena, 3801 N. Navarro St., Victoria. Demerits: 12. Cover all food in coolers. Need to use gloves when handling tomatoes. Need cold water at hand sink at kitchen entrance.

Coffee Cakes Drive-Thru Cafe, 1505 N. Esplanade St., Cuero. Demerits: 11. Dispose of out-of-date whipping cream. Date-label lunch meat and milk if not used in 24 hours. Need thermometer in small refrigerator. One facility or equipment violation.

Church's Fried Chicken, 1203 N. Esplanade St., Cuero. Demerits: 9. Men's restroom needs paper towels. Use licensed pest control only. Need to clean the ice dispenser at the soda fountain. Three facility or equipment violations.

Restaurant y Taqueria Calle 8, 819 Shepley St., Bloomington. Demerits: 7. Items on ice need to hold at 41 degrees or keep time log; discard after four hours.

Ruby's Diner, 310 S. Esplanade St., Cuero. Demerits: 7. No cold water at hand sink; corrected on site. Use licensed pest control only. One facility or equipment violation.

Taqueria Las Fuentes, 9345 Farm-to-Market Road 1593, Lolita. Demerits: 7. Date-label all potentially hazardous, ready-to-eat foods with a seven-day use-by date. Front white cooler needs thermometer. One facility or equipment violation.

Speedy Stop No. 2, 100 Shepley St., Bloomington. Demerits: 4. Watch date labeling if food is above 41 degrees (cold hold) or below 135 degrees (hot hold); need to discard after four hours. Keep written policy log.

Inteplast Cafeteria, 101 Inteplast Cafeteria, Lolita. Demerits: 4. Store raw meats below produce in coolers.

Taqueria El Huasteco, 103 E. Second St., Bloomington; Bahnhof Cafe, 213 W. Main St., Cuero; Longhorn Saloon, 1301 N. Ben Jordan St., Victoria. Demerits: 3.

McAlister's Sweet Shop, 103 N. Hunt St., Cuero; Catholic War Veterans, 1007 S. Main St., Victoria; Hideaway, 1807 Stolz St., Victoria; JR's, 611 S. Moody St., Victoria; Mumphord's Place Barbecue, Inc., 1202 E. Juan Linn St., Victoria; Twin Pines Nursing and Rehabilitation, 3301 Mockingbird Lane, Victoria; Victoria Masonic Lodge No. 40, 3502 N. Navarro St., Victoria; Villafranca Tamales, 414 Crawford Drive, Victoria; VISD Culinary Arts, 104 Profit Drive, Victoria. Demerits: 0.



RE-INSPECTIONS

Meat Center, 3035 Farm-to-Market Road 822, Edna, inspected Nov. 19 with seven demerits. Re-inspected Nov. 30 with no hot or cold water in restroom. Will most likely have it repaired by Sunday.

Brittany's Roasted Corn, Mobile Unit 77901, Victoria, inspected Nov. 13 with seven demerits. Re-inspected Dec. 4 with all violations corrected.

Texas Seafood Restaurant, 2202 N. Navarro St., Victoria, inspected Nov. 21 with 30 demerits. Re-inspected Nov. 30 with improper cold-hold temperature. Recommend general cleaning of establishment, especially grease under grill.
