A Victoria man was arrested Friday morning on a charge of online solicitation of a minor.

Jeremy Chapa, 33, was arrested at 9:30 a.m. by police in the 100 block of Esquire Place. Chapa was on his way to meet a 15-year-old for a sexual encounter, officials said in a news release.

Online solicitation of a minor is a second degree felony, which is punishable by up to 20 years in prison with a $10,000 fine, according to the Texas Penal Code.

The Victoria Police Department reminded parents to play an active role in their child's Internet activity by knowing their log on passwords and who they are talking to. For more information on safe Internet practices, go to safesurfingkids.com.
