The 22nd annual H-E-B Feast of Sharing is more than a meal - it's a celebration of the season among friends.
"This is something we look forward to every year," said Gus Kroos, who has retired from H-E-B but remained involved in organizing the annual event. "We're serving the people of the community and helping as much as we can to feed people in need.
"It's our way of saying thank you to the community and inviting everyone to come out and have a good time," Kroos said.
The holiday meal will be served from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Victoria Community Center, 2905 E. North St.
One change in this year's event is the Thursday serving date instead of the traditional Monday, said Kroos.
An estimated 5,000 meals are expected to be served, according to a news release from H-E-B.
Those meals will include about 1,250 pounds of glazed ham, 1,250 pounds of mashed potatoes, 1,100 pounds of vegetable medley, 100 gallons of brown gravy, 500 pies, 5,000 dinner rolls and soft drinks will be served, according to the news release.
In addition to the food, attendees will be entertained with live music and other performances and a children's area with face painting and crafts.
Entertainment will include the Victoria school district Junior ROTC drill team, the Victoria College Commercial Music Ensemble, the Victoria school district Ballet Folklorico, the Victoria school district Mariachi band, Chase Brown, Crossroads Country Cloggers and Casey Leann Walthall.
Gary Moses will be the master of ceremonies.
Of course, Santa Claus will be there from 3 to 5 p.m. with Blue Santa taking over from 5 to 7 p.m.
Volunteers to assist in serving and cleanup are also needed. If interested, call 2-1-1.
The Feast of Sharing tradition began in 1988, and H-E-B's holiday dinner program has now grown to serve more than 250,000 meals in 32 locations throughout Texas and Mexico, according to the news release.
