The Victoria Generals have named Stephen Flora, an assistant baseball coach at Wharton County Junior College, as the third coach in team history on Wednesday.
"After we found out that Clem would not return for 2013, we immediately set our sights on hiring Stephen," said Generals' GM Blake Koch in a news release. "He was our clear-cut, No. 1 choice during the whole interview process, so we are thrilled that he accepted the position to lead our team this summer."
Flora is currently in his second year as the assistant coach at Wharton County Junior College, working as the team's pitching coach and recruiting coordinator. He also previously coached at Texas A&M Kingsville.
He has also worked in the Texas Collegiate League before, having been an assistant coach for the Coppell Copperheads in 2011. The Austin native played baseball at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and at Galveston College and also notched one professional season, playing for the Midwest Sliders of the Frontier League in Ypsilanti, Mich.
Flora replaces Chris Clemons, who was also an assistant coach at McLennan Community College in Waco, took a scouting job with the Chicago Cubs in late August.
Clemons coached the Generals to a TCL regular season championship in 2009, a TCL championship series win in 2010 and an appearance in the championship series in 2012.
He previously was the team's coach in 2009 and 2010 before leaving for a year. Former Reds and Nationals pitcher and Yoakum graduate Ryan Wagner led the Generals in 2011.
