University of Houston-Victoria is kicking off its spring semester with an open house for prospective, current and transfer students who need to finalize their to-do list before school starts back up on Jan. 14.

UHV representatives from the four academic schools and different service departments will be on hand to guide students through any requirements they need to complete before the spring semester begins. Representatives also will be able to answer any questions students have about the campus and student life.

Staff members will be set up in the computer lab on the second floor of the University Center with direct access to the resources they need to help students get ready for the new semester, said Billy Lagal, manager of UHV's Letting Education Achieve Dreams and student recruitment.

"We want to make the start of the semester as seamless as possible for students," he said. "That's why we have gathered all the resources and put them in one convenient location for students to get their requirements fulfilled."

At the open house, students will be able to:

Fill out an admission application.

Register for courses

Talk with an adviser

Apply for financial aid

Sign up for student housing.

Make a fee payment

Learn about student life activities

Take a campus tour.

Students who are transferring from another school, or who are heading back to college, can bring a copy of their unofficial transcripts for on-site advising or registration. Any necessary immunization documentation - including a record of the state-required bacterial meningitis vaccine for students under age 30 - also can be brought along.
