BOWLING: Marquez scores high in Sundowner league

Don Marquez was very consistent during Sundowner League competition to record the weekly high series honors.

Marques only open frame was a split in the first frame of the first game as he rolled great games of 235, 237, and 237 to finish with a 709 set.

Larry Mikulec was the only other bowler to break the 700 mark last week with a 248 high game contributing towards a 703 total posted during Sugar & Spice League play.

Other nice scores for the men were T.J. Mooney (247-699/256-673), Kim Blake (699), Randy Vivero (277-694), Brian Hyden (269-693), Dave Matthews (681/257), Korey Bryan (270-674), Robert Ellis (669), Mike Stacy (664), Victor Thomas (664), Travis Dollins (664), Gary Hatter Jr. (661), Steve Zeplin (659), Dandy Richards (249-653), Jacob Silgero (289), Abraham Flores (258), Justin Smith (258), and Justin Tweedle (256).

Congratulations to Silgero for a great 289 game, one strike away from an award score.

Judy Reyna edged by youngster Bailey Koebrick in the Sugar & Spice league for the top women's honors.

Reyna rolled a 234 high game on her way to a 608 series and Koebrick posted a 221 high for a 605 total.

Other nice scores for the ladies were Morgan Matula (220-597), Pat Robles (591), Michelle Bonuz with a great 247 high game helping towards a 590 set and Carri Lee with a nice 224-589.

The PBA Viper Championship was broadcast last Sunday with another exciting down to the wire finish.

Seeded third, Mika Koivuniemi moved up the step-ladder finals by defeating Mike Fagan 214-150 and Sean Rash 258-180 to reach the finals.

In the finals against Brad Angelo, Koivuniemi, working on a double needed a strike and 9 pin count in the tenth frame to lockout Angelo. He struck in the first ball but got a 6 pin count on the next ball and 3 pins on the fill ball to finish with a 232 game.

Angelo needed a double and 8 pin count in the 10th frame and he came through in the clutch for a 233 game and his second PBA title.

Next Sunday at noon on ESPN the PBA Chameleon Championship will be broadcast with two big time favorites Walter Ray Williams and Jason Belmonte making the final four finalists.
