In this day and age with so much emphasis on technology, the school should have a presence on Facebook and Twitter and use it to notify parents.

Unfortunately, rumors can be true. The school should take every precaution necessary and notify the parents of the situation.

"As soon as the teachers know of it, by a phone call that day," Frank Salyer, 18, student, Victoria

"They should be notified as soon as possible. Definitely not through social media. I think the schools should have some sort of emergency text system just like the college campus has," Jessica Gonzalez, 20, H-E-B employee, Victoria

  • I think VISD should have the parents complete a questionaire before the year starts.

    1) Are you going to race up here wanting your kid every time a stupid rumor pops up?

    2) Are you comfortable knowing VISD is safer than your own home?

In the event a rumor crisis occurs...
Those few clods who answer #1 will be added to the ignorant rumor contact list
The vast majority who answer #2 will be left alone

  • Completely wrong.

When dozens of students are texting their parents about how scared they are and the possiblility of a gunman on campus; when facebook posts are reporting possible danger; when the news crews are already on site; when the police have extra staff patrolling the campus; when 100+ parents are in line to remove their children from class...

    The school MUST respond.

To communicate CLEARLY and QUICKLY; that this is JUST a rumor - that our kids are still safe - and to quench the rising tide of panic in the 'people that believe anything'.

Not communicating, waiting until the next day to make a politically correct statement, or pretending like nothing out of the ordinary is happening is simply NOT an option.

  • The school shouldn't have to do anything about a rumor.

The problem now days is there are a lot of scared people that believe anything they are told. Not only do they believe it, they take immediate action on those beliefs. This says a lot about the current state of the average citizen.

The scary part is that they believe the source that started it. Credible sources for information:
    1) Any one of a thousand Facebook friends (known or unknown)
    2) Any text message regardless of who it is from
    3) Any statement that resembles, "I heard that_____________"

    Watch this...
Hey, I heard the water tower near the park fell down and people are drowning all over the city.
Before this day is over, there will be people driving through Victoria looking for drowning victims.
