A 15-year-old Yoakum boy was arrested Friday and charged with aggravated robbery and arson stemming from two incidents Thursday night.

About 8:30 p.m. Thursday, the Yoakum Fire Department responded to a fire in an unoccupied mobile home at the corner of Matthew and Julia streets.

"There was no one living there and no electricity connected, so it was suspicious," said Yoakum Police Chief Arthur Rogers.

While at the fire scene, Yoakum police received a call of a robbery at the Dollar General store, 304 W. Grand Ave.

Upon arrival, the robbery suspect was no longer on the scene.

After investigating both incidents, on Friday afternoon Yoakum police arrested the teenager.

"We believe he set the fire as a diversion for the robbery," said Rogers.

The police chief said the clerk at the Dollar General store fled out a back door when the robbery attempt was made, setting off an alarmand scaring off the culprit, who left empty-handed.

The teen was later transferred to the Victoria County Juvenile Detention Center.
