The DeWitt County Shutterbugs Camera Club is accepting entries beginning March 1 for its 2012 contest.

Entry fee is $5 per photo in the adult division and $3 in the youth division that is open to students in the eighth grade or lower.

More than $1,000 in prize money will be awarded in both the adult and youth divisions, according to a news release from the club.

A panel of three qualified judges will select winning photographs based on technical merit and artistic impression. Only the highest scoring photos in each category will be exhibited at the Cuero Municipal Library during April.

About 250 photos are displayed from the hundreds submitted.

While the youth division consists of only one category, the adult division has seven categories: architecture, animals/fauna, flowers/plants, landscapes/scenic, miscellaneous, portraits/people and special effects.

Cash prizes are awarded to the first three places in each category.

A special wildflower category features a $75 prize for first place and the Best in the Show will win $100.

Entry deadline is March 24.
