The Victoria College board approved a resolution accepting Victoria Performing Art Center Inc.'s agreement allowing the college to develop a committee to explore the possibility of taking over the Leo J. Welder Center for the Performing Arts. The board also accepted about $500,000 as a gift from the estate of Betsy Wright, who left the money to the college. She did not specify how it should be used.

The Victoria College Board of Trustees, at a special meeting Tuesday, squared away plans for an election for two trustee positions.

Districts 1 and 2 are up for election this year. Incumbents Josie Rivera, secretary, and Luis Guerra, vice-chairman, said they plan to file for re-election.

The board unanimously approved a redrawn trustee district map that's divided into four districts, which mirror the county's district map. The new map was created based on the latest census numbers and does not move any current trustees out of their districts.

The board also approved an order calling a joint general election with other area entities on May 12.

So far, no one has filed to run in the trustee election. Filing began Saturday and will last until March 5.

Anyone wishing to run for a position on the VC board can pick up a packet at the College Advancement and External Affairs Office in VC's Administration II Building, 2200 E. Red River St.
