At least one city council seat will be contested in the May 12 election.
District 4 incumbent David Hagan is facing a challenge from Lewis Neitsch, president of the Victoria Sales Tax Development Corporation board of directors and former city councilman, said city secretary Scarlet Swoboda.
Filing officially opened Saturday, but applications were not accepted until regular office hours Monday. Since then, three other Victorians have submitted their application to run for city council. The local election is not affected by the state's redistricting maps issue.
Mayor pro tem Paul Polasek is seeking re-election for the District 3 position he has held since 2006, while Josephine Soliz is seeking District 2 after her son, Gabriel Soliz, who currently holds the office, filed for county commissioner.
Incumbent Denise Rangel is seeking another term at the District 1 seat.
Swoboda said filing is open through 5 p.m., March 5, at the city secretary's office, 105 W. Juan Linn St.
"Usually the first week is the busiest or the last couple of days," she said. "Historically, that's the way it's been ... There haven't been a lot of (election) packets asked for, so I don't know" if more will file.
Victoria Independent School District has two open school board positions.
Incumbents Ross Mansker, District 4, and Estella De Los Santos, District 2, have filed for re-election.
Filing is open through March 5 at the VISD Administration Building, 102 Profit Drive.
Carol Mueller, secretary to the superintendent, said not many people have picked up election packets.
"We've only had two file," Mueller said. "So far it's pretty quiet."

Thanks el69runner,
February 9, 2012 at 11:20 a.m.I will be taking your advise.
Okay Victorians, all year you have been saying how incompetent, Good ol' boy network, deals behind closed doors and everything else going on with our current council members... will you let your voice be heard and go vote or are you going to continue to accept the same and let you voice only be made by posting your comments...GET OUT N VOTE...
February 8, 2012 at 11:05 p.m.Mr. Neitsch needs to stay out of the race because he and another City Councilman have there own little meetings at Moo Moo Drive Inn, that's what he needs to do, is continue to make burgers and chicken and let Mr. Hagan continue to do his job, which by the way is excellent.
