Editor, the Advocate:

Just a thought. Just consider:

So, as I am looking at Eskimo Hut, I am reminded of an article that I read years ago about businesses like these, how not only does the city accept them, but encourages them.

See, the Eskimo Hut now occupies what used to be a Diamond Shamrock. The Shamrock building being abandoned was not bringing any type of revenue to anybody. Now, property tax, business tax and alcohol tax are among a list of possible revenues.

Unexpectedly, the highest grossing income may come from the most obvious source but go to the least obvious collectors. They will come from you, but the collectors just may be the city of Victoria justice system. The number of DUIs, DWIs and other traffic violations will more than likely increase, bringing a significant amount of money directly to the city of Victoria courts system.

So the next time you decide to take a visit, just think that the very officer, very ticker, and very pen they are using may be funded by the very drink in your hand. This isn't to discourage their business, only irresponsible drinking. Try the starburst; it's amazing.

Corey Briones, Victoria
