City manager, attorney receive pay raises

Heard a report about the state's housing tax credit program to fund a proposed apartment complex. Approved a resolution to create an $87,000 agreement between the city and Victoria Engineering for utility improvements on Lone Tree Industrial Park II Street. Approved a resolution authorizing the city manager to execute necessary documents to sell a 3,300-square-foot piece of land in the EW.W. Ernst Subdivision. Approved a resolution to approve amendments to the Victoria Sales Tax Development Corp. Approved a resolution authorizing the city manager to execute an utility easement on Guy Grant Road and North Navarro Street for the U.S. Highway 77 Lift Station Force Main Improvement Project, in exchange for $2,500.
Two top Victoria employees received pay raises Tuesday night.
In a 5-1 vote the Victoria City Council approved a resolution Tuesday approving the raises.
The resolution increased City Manager Charmelle Garrett's salary 3 percent, or $4,890, to $167,890 from $163,000.
City Attorney Thomas Gwosdz's salary increased 5 percent to $131,250, from $125,000.
Councilman Gabriel Soliz voted against the resolution.
"I'm just trying to do what my district has asked me to do," he said.
Mayor Pro Tem Paul Polasek reminded Soliz that all city employees received a 3 percent raise this year.
"I don't understand why anyone is trying to exclude (two) employees," he said.
