Sky's the limit with iPhone: Veteran photojournalist offers tips
Apple's iPhone 4S, equipped with an eight megapixel still/video camera, has put fun back into my photography.
The optics are great for Web production and even passes the test for reproduction in the paper. The video quality is pretty decent as well, but where it really shines is in its capabilities to merge seamlessly with social media.
A quick trip to the Apple app store is like letting a kid loose in a candy store. There are so many photo applications that lure you in that it's difficult to pass up downloading every one of them.
Several of my favorites are Hipstamatic with the John L lens, and Kodot film combo, PhotoStudio and PhotoWizard.
You can either keep it simple and shoot from the hip, or bury yourself deep into post production, if that's your thing. Personally, I like to push the limit, slipping into a Salvador Dali moment.
Manipulating the small controls can be frustrating at times, but the results are worth the effort.
