Salute: Update on Crossroads veterans

Marine Corps Pvt. Martin J. Kallus

Private Martin J. Kallus, 19, of Victoria, graduated from United States Marine Corps boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego on Dec. 21. Kallus completed 13 weeks of intensive basic training at MCRD San Diego as one of 70 recruits in Training Platoon 3242. While in basic training Kallus served as Catholic Prayer Leader for his platoon. Following 10 days home on leave he will serve as a recruiter's assistant in Victoria before reporting to Camp Pendleton for two months at Infantry Training Battalion.

He is the son of Chris and Diana Kallus, of Victoria. Kallus is a 2011 graduate of St. Joseph High School.

Army Pvt. Brandon E. Cantu graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

Cantu is the son of Erica Bernal, of Victoria.

Airman Cassandra Cortines graduated in October from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base. She has completed the first part of tech school and has received her EMT/basic license with the medical board. She is the daughter of Dion and Teresa Cortines, of Victoria. Cortines is the granddaughter of Bobby and Dolores Garza, of Refugio.

Navy Seaman Richard E. Buddemeier recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

He is the son of Lisa R. Buddemeier, of Bloomington, and Ron M. Buddemeier, of Victoria.

Navy Seaman Apprentice Wesley D. Randall recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Randall is a 2009 graduate of Memorial High School.
