A fan greeted University of Houston-Victoria catcher Brandon Bohanon as he exited the dressing room.

"I am so glad to have you back behind the plate," the fan said.

Bohanon shares the same sentiment. The sophomore has battled back from a broken ankle that kept him out of the fall season.

"I'm feeling great," Bohanon said. "The ankle feels fine. It's getting there."

Bohanon caught two runners stealing and picked off another in the Jaguars' 3-1 loss to No. 6 LSU-Shreveport in the first game of a pair of seven-inning doubleheaders on Monday night at Riverside Stadium.

The Pilots scored two runs in the sixth inning to break a tie in the first game. The Jaguars' lone run came on a RBI single by Ryan Suescun.

LSU-Shreveport improved to 10-0 with a 12-1 win in the second game. Greg Friesen had a two-run home run in the first inning, and Tyler Alton added a three-run homer in the Pilots' eight-run seventh, in which seven runs were unearned.

Corey Hulsey had two hits for UHV, which dropped to 3-6.

Bohanon has caught in three games this season and made his second start behind the plate on Monday night.

"I'm starting to feel a lot more comfortable behind the plate, throwing down, throwing to first, and throwing to second," Bohanon said. "It's starting to be natural again."

Bohanon caught Cory Carter, who worked into the sixth inning against the Pilots. Carter struck out six and surrendered only four hits but was hurt by four walks.

"He threw the ball great tonight," Bohanon said. "He threw it real well. His cutter was working that's what we mainly threw and had them off balance. We set them up with the fastball. There was just times when he was rushing things a little bit just getting out in front. I just had to calm him back down and get him back in his groove."

Bohanon has walked four times in his 10 plate appearances, but is still searching for his first hit.

"It's progressing," he said. "It's not quite where I want it yet. It still feels a little funny, but it's coming along. I expect to be there real soon."

Bohanon feels the same way about the Jaguars, who return to action Friday against Incarnate Word in San Antonio.

"We're playing great," Bohanon said. "There's just a couple of mistakes we make in a game. It may be one little mistake and it just seems that's what's costing us ballgames right now."
