Louise O'Connor will receive the Historic Texas Lands Plaque presented by the Texas Historical Commission.
She was nominated by the Museum of the Coastal Bend.
The Historic Texas Lands Plaque recognizes private landowners who have made a contribution to the preservation of Texas history and prehistory.
Jeff Durst, regional archeologist for the Texas Historical Commission, will present the award to O'Connor at 1 p.m., March 23, during the Museum of the Coastal Bend's Archeology Fair.
This event is open to the public and will include a reception.
The Museum of the Coastal Bend nominated O'Connor for allowing substantial and significant archeological research on her property and for allowing the museum to curate the artifacts found there.
These research efforts have contributed significantly to the body of knowledge regarding Texas' past.
Immediately following the award presentation, Durst will discuss landowner rights in Texas.
Durst has been actively employed in archeology for the past 18 years, most recently with the Texas Historical Commission as regional archeologist and project reviewer for south Texas.
He served as the assistant project director and then project director of the THC's Fort St. Louis Archeological Project. His presentation is free and open to the public.
