Food service inspections

The Victoria City-County Health Department Environmental Health Division inspects places where food is served in Victoria, DeWitt, Jackson and Calhoun Counties.

In the inspection reports, each violation in the Food Temperature/Time Requirements category is 5 demerits; in the Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements category, 4 demerits; and in the Facility and Equipment Requirements, 3 demerits. Zero is a perfect score, while 100 demerits is the worst possible score.

Each Wednesday, the Advocate publishes inspection results from the previous week. All demerits are reported, but only those in the categories of Food Temperature/Time Requirements and Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements are detailed.



FOOD SERVICE INSPECTIONS FOR WEEK ENDING FEB. 24

Wan Fu Restaurant, 601 E. Mockingbird Lane, Victoria. Demerits: 19. Improper cold hold temperature. Employee drinks need to be in spill-proof container. Keep raw meat below cooked foods. Need toilet paper in restroom. Two facility or equipment violations.

Jack in the Box No. 4764, 1510 E. Rio Grande St., Victoria. Demerits: 16. Improper hot hold temperature. Change gloves between tasks. Wash hands and wear gloves when handling ready-to-eat foods. Clean the microwave. One facility or equipment violation.

Dairy Queen, 1409 W. Austin St., Port Lavaca. Demerits: 15. Wash hands between glove changes. Wear gloves when handling ready-to-eat foods. Wash hands between handling raw meat and ready-to-eat foods. One facility or equipment violation.

M and M Pinto Bean No. 2, 202 E. Rio Grande St., Victoria. Demerits: 14. Wash hands between tasks. Use gloves or tongs when handling ready-to-eat foods. Replace the flour bin. Two facility or equipment violations.

Taco Poco Loco, 403 S. Laurent St., Victoria. Demerits: 14. Improper cold hold temperature. Use hand washing sink for hand washing only. Work on date labeling ready-to-eat, potentially hazardous foods with 7-day use-by date. Keep eggs refrigerated or keep documentation of time using the 4-hour rule. Need paper towels at the hand washing sink. Pay for the 2012 food permit. Two facility or equipment violations.

Speedy Stop No. 81, 6490 Farm-to-Market Road 236, Victoria. Demerits: 12. Improper cold hold temperature. Need an approved sewage/wastewater disposal system. One facility or equipment violation.

Rolling Joe's, 101 Lamar St., Point Comfort. Demerits: 11. Improper cold hold temperature. Keep soap at hand sink. Store chemicals away from food. One facility or equipment violation.

Dick's Food Stores Seadrift, LLC, 202 Broadway St., Seadrift. Demerits: 11. Out-of-date baby cereal, orange juice and yogurt. Need to date label lunch meat with 7-day use-by date. One facility or equipment violation.

El Mexicano Grill No. 3, 702 W. Broadway St., Seadrift. Demerits: 11. Employee drinks need lid and straw, and store below food and food prep areas. Date label loaf of ham or prepared food; need hand washing sign at hand sink. Store chemicals away from food. Cannot use Raid in building. One facility or equipment violation.

Skillet's No. 118, 2090 state Highway 35, Port Lavaca. Demerits: 9. Need paper towels at hand washing sinks; cannot use cloth towels. Three facility or equipment violations.

Texas Drive Inn, 607 S. Laurent St., Victoria. Demerits: 9. Roaches present. Need to clean droppings in the storage room. Need to wash, rinse and sanitize all the dishes.

Tortilleria La Estrella, 310 W. George St., Port Lavaca. Demerits: 8. Cover food in dry storage. Keep water on at hand washing sink.

Buffalo Wild Wings, 7905 N. Navarro St., Victoria. Demerits: 8. Improper cold hold temperature. One facility or equipment violation.

Village Grocery, State Highway 35 and Lamar St., Point Comfort. Demerits: 7. Keep hose 2 inches above sink level when not using. Men's restroom needs paper towels. One facility or equipment violation.

Burger King No. 11204, 8501 N. Navarro St., Victoria. Demerits: 7. Need to double hand wash and use nail brush and apply hand sanitizer before touching ready-to-eat foods. One facility or equipment violation.

Little Caesar's Pizza, 1907 John Stockbauer Drive, Victoria. Demerits: 7. Need hot water in restroom. Flies in the establishment. One facility or equipment violation.

Pizza Hut - Wingstreet No. 23459, 7002 N.E. Zac Lentz Parkway, Victoria. Demerits: 6. Gnats in the bar area. Two facility or equipment violations.

RE-INSPECTIONS

Taqueria El Rodeo 2 By 2, 1928 Main St., Port Lavaca, inspected Jan. 26, with 36 demerits. Re-inspected Feb. 16 with improper cold hold temperature. Discard the prepared hot foods in the walk-in above 41 degrees for more than four hours. Keep utensils out of hand sink. Critical violations not corrected. Will re-inspect.

Casa Ole Restaurant and Cantina, 391 Victoria Mall, Victoria, inspected Feb. 17 with 5 demerits. Re-inspected Feb. 17, violations corrected.

Elmcroft of Victoria, 411 E. Larkspur St., Victoria, inspected Feb. 1 with 3 demerits. Re-inspected Feb. 16, must sanitize at the three-compartment sink. New machine will be installed and will notify when completed.

Little Caesar's Pizza, 1907 John Stockbauer Drive, Victoria, inspected Feb. 16, with 7 demerits. Re-inspected Feb. 17, with violations corrected.

Wan Fu Restaurant, 601 E. Mockingbird Lane, Victoria, inspected Feb. 16 with 19 demerits. Re-inspected Feb. 22, all violations corrected.
