Dave Matthews and Lynda Mikulec edged by their adversaries in a very competitive week of bowling.

Matthews bagged the overall high series to take the honors while bowling in the Friday Mixed League. He rolled games of 268, 257, and 214 to post a 739 total and the honors by one pin.

Matthews also scored a 266 high game and 682 set in another league.

Lynda Mikulec has been on a tear the last three weeks to lead local women bowlers not only in the weekly league scoring but also during the recent women's city bowling tournament.

Competing in Sugar & Spice League play, she rolled games of 213, 212, and 241 for a 666 series and the third straight week for the women's honors.

Last week's high bowler, Mike Stacy was consistent in league play to bowl games of 244, 248, and 246 for a 738 total and second high for the week.

Steve Dickinson also enjoyed a good week of bowling with sets of 259,267-728, 699, and 669.

Other scores of note for the men were Jerry Cano (689), Marcus Espindola (268-684), Steve Zeplin (249-676), J. P. Reyna (676), Ray Polensky (673), John Figueroa (672), Todd Pfuhl (672), Darryl Mergele (267-664), Darren Blohm (663), Dandy Richards (662), Ramsey Martinez (659), Brian Hyden (256-653), Korey Bryan (651), Rene Silgero (264), Jeromy Neitch (258), Mark Redding (256), and Bobby Rodriguez (255).

A young bowler making a name for herself in local women's competition is Rebekah Martinez. The 21 year old bowler averaged 146 in league play at the end of last season and has really improved this year.

This past week she blasted the pins for her career best sets of 234-656 and 256-642 for the second high women's score.

Other nice scores were Samantha Wharton (259-631), Christine Speer (233-629/234), and Ida Caballero (593).

Vera Cruz bowlers for the week are Norm Watkins (757 Guys & Dolls) and Rebekah Martinez (725 Sundowners).

In Memoriam

It is with sorrow that I mention of another former Victoria bowler having passed away.

Gwen Totah was a league bowler in the 70's and 80's and was a member of a city tournament team title in 1982. The team sponsor was The Corral.

My condolence and sympathy go out to the family.
