The Children's Discovery Museum begins 1 in 10,000 campaign to help with operating expenses and raise awareness

The Children's Discovery Museum of the Golden Crescent wants more people aware of its existence.

On Feb. 20 the museum kicked off a campaign to make it happen.

"After 10 years, people still don't know we're here," said LeOlive Rogge, a founding board member.

Rogge said the campaign is imperative to the downtown revitalization project.

Organizers said the goal is to have 10,000 people purchase the "1 in 10,000" bumper stickers to help make a difference.

The stickers are available for a $10 minimum contribution. Proceeds will help cover operating expenses.

Interim Museum Director Paige Gedvillas said if people make a donation they are more likely to be engaged with the museum.

"If they invest $10, they'll watch us," she said.

Some of the museum's activities include Texas Our Texas exhibit, NanoDays Spring Break Camp, and a magic show from the film stars in the Victoria Independent Film Festival.

Gedvillas said the museum allows students to use their imagination.

One of the interim director's goals is to make a mobile museum.

"If students can't afford to come us, we can come to the schools," she said.
