Victoria students submitted art with a western theme to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo School Art contest on Saturday.

The art was on display in the Victoria Fine Arts Center.

The winning pieces will be judged in the Grand Prix in Houston with more than 300,000 other winning submissions from other regions.

The art will be auctioned to raise prize money and to support 15 four-year $16,000 scholarships awarded based on academic merit to students who submitted art.

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo art show includes more than 300,000 pieced of artwork by students across the state, with only the top artwork making it to the show in Houston. Locally, the show included 300 pieces of art by elementary, middle and high school students.
