A verbal argument between two Bloomington men escalated into a knife fight early Saturday morning and ended with one dead and the other accused of murder.

A neighbor called for an ambulance as residents at the scene tried to keep the wounded man alive at 1:09 a.m. But the victim - later identified as Billy Jack Baladez, 21, of Bloomington - did not survive.

Baladez had been arguing with another man over a Bloomington woman when he was stabbed four times and cut open, said his cousin, Barnabas Baladez, 39, of Bloomington. The fight occurred outside in the 100 block of Shepley Street.

When deputies arrived, they found Baladez with chest lacerations, according to their official report.

Witnesses told deputies they saw two men fighting in the road. Baladez collapsed in a pool of his own blood, and the other man fled the scene with a knife, telling the witnesses not to say anything.

Fabian Lee "Pilar" Garcia, 22, of Bloomington, was arrested by deputies at his home in the 400 block of North Nueces Street at 4:53 a.m. He has been charged with felony murder in the first degree.

Deputies are still interviewing witnesses and other people involved, said Victoria County Sheriff T. Michael O'Connor.

  • Don't you hate that disfunctional living and how it effects the community? There should be a law against living in a dysfunctional life style. A family just lost a loved one. Please do not add to thier pain.

But for the grace of God.
