Farmers have tough time making ends meet

Editor, the Advocate:

This is in response to Willie (Dec. 31). I wonder how long you have farmed since you seem to know so much?

I lived on a farm 22 years and don't remember ever being subsidized. Maybe the big farmer can qualify for the subsidy, but his expenses are tremendous.

If you have seen farmers smiling, it must be a long time since you've seen a farmer. The ones I see are just worn out from working two jobs to make ends meet.

So if you eat, don't complain; and if you complain, go farm. As farmers are leaving their farms, you will complain about the cost of food; and I suppose it will be the farmers' fault.
