I received a Kindle for Christmas. Does the Victoria Public Library offer downloadable eBooks for Kindle? How many titles can be checked out at a time? How long can eBooks be checked out?
Yes! The Victoria Public Library is excited to announce that its eBook collection is now compatible with the Amazon Kindle.
Patrons may download popular and classic eBooks to a Kindle device or any mobile device running the free Kindle app, such as iPhone, iPad, Android and more. Simply visit southtexas.lib.overdrive.com to get started.
The Library also offers eBooks and audiobooks for use on a PC or Mac computer and popular mobile devices such as the Smartphone, MP3 players and eBook readers, such as the Barnes and Noble Nook, the Sony Reader and devices from other manufacturers.
Kindle users can browse the Library's collection of eBooks from a PC or Mac computer, check out titles using a VPL library card (you will need your pin number) and select "Get Kindle" to deliver eBooks to your Kindle device or any device running the free Kindle app. Users who enjoy eBooks on Kindle will benefit from Amazon's Whispersync technology that synchronizes notes, highlights and bookmarks pages.
Titles from the eBook collection can be checked out for 21 days and five eBook titles can be checked out at a time. There are never overdue books or late fees on eBooks - titles automatically return to the Library's collection. After 21 days, an eBook can be checked-out again if it's available.

Now that the city will be offering curbside recycling, will the Huvar Recycling Center be closed?
Yes, the Huvar Recycling Center will close on Feb. 4. The curbside recycling program officially begins on Feb, 6. City residents who have garbage collection and water service with the city have already begun receiving a new 96-gallon recycling container. The city is delivering containers to approximately 20,000 residents, and all delivery is expected to be completed by Jan. 20. Residents who recycle frequently can request an additional recycling cart(s) for an extra $5 monthly fee.
Recycling carts will be picked up every other week. There will be 10 recycling routes/areas, and residents will be receiving letters informing them about the day of the week their recycling will be collected. Recycling will be collected on a different day from residents' normal trash pick-up. All residents will have their first round of recycling picked up between Feb. 6-17.
The curbside recycling program is only available at this time for residential customers in the city limits. Future plans to expand the program to include businesses and apartment complexes are being discussed.
Victoria County residents are not included in the curbside recycling service. County residents with questions about recycling are encouraged to contact their county commissioner.
