A Victoria man was sentenced on Wednesday to 99 years in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated assault.
A jury took less than 20 minutes to sentence Jon Anthony Hill, 41. He was also sentenced to 20 years for deadly conduct.
Hill pleaded guilty to the crimes on Tuesday afternoon.
"The jury sent a message today that violent offenders like this defendant need to be put away for life," Victoria County Assistant District Attorney Elí E. Garza said in a news release. "I hope that all the victims hurt by this defendant can believe that justice was served today."
Hill was charged with shooting at a Victoria woman, who he was in a relationship with for several years, on July 8 because she tried to leave him.
Because of safety concerns, the woman asked not to be identified.
In 1993, Hill was granted probation in the murder of a former girlfriend and the wounding of her new boyfriend. The probation was later revoked, and he was sentenced to prison for 10 years.
