Cuero's Christmas in the Park wrapped up another successful year on New Year's night.
More than 22,000 vehicles - a record, topping last year's 20,637 - made their way through the self-guided driving tour of holiday lights and displays, said Mary Polansky of the Cuero Development Corporation's December Events Committee, host of the annual display.
"Many people made special trips from all over the area and beyond just to see the displays," Polansky said. "Coming to see the park has become a tradition for most of the visitors."
The vehicles making the tour not only included passenger cars and trucks, but also vans, buses and limousines. Estimated conservatively at four people per vehicle, Polansky said that 85,000 to 90,000 people visited Christmas in the Park between the Monday before Thanksgiving through Jan. 1.
The most popular scene was the new poinsettia arch over the exit to the park. However, the children all still want to see Sassy, the sea serpent in the lake, Polansky said.
Thursdays in December - Hot Chocolate Night - proved to be popular as about 3,100 cups of hot chocolate were handed out.
The 12th edition of the display featured 27 new scenes, bringing the total to 140.
Driving through the park is free and donations are taken at the end.
"The visitors were all very generous, and that helps us continue to improve and add to Christmas in the Park," said Polansky. "We also appreciate all the compliments."
