Dawn House,

A Hallettsville woman was arrested and charged with theft from the nonprofit organization she worked for in Houston.

Dawn House, 31, worked as a bookkeeper for the Houston chapter of the Muslim American Society.

The Harris County District Attorney's Office spokesman said she deposited donation checks for the charity totaling more than $200,000 into her private accounts.

The Muslim American Society operates mosques and religious schools in Houston.

House had been the nonprofit organization's bookkeeper for about two years.

House, who was arrested Tuesday at her home in Hallettsville, has been released from jail after posting bail on a $20,000 bond, according to the Harris County prosecutor's office.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety criminal history database, House has previous arrests for theft in 2000, bail jumping and failure to appear in 2001, theft in 2002, fraud in 2002 and assault causing bodily injury to a family member in 2004.
