A brush fire became out of control and burned about an acre of land on Serene Drive West at 10:30 a.m. Friday.
The fire spread slowly, but threatened at least one home west of the flames.
Domingo Gonzales, 55, said he used water hoses to contain the fire before it reached his neighbor's home in the neighborhood between Placedo and Bloomington.
Gonzales lives in Katar, but owns the property where the fire started. He said he called the fire department before attempting the controlled burn to make sure conditions were safe.
The fire jumped from the burning brush to nearby tall grass, prompting the Victoria Fire Department and the Bloomington Volunteer Fire Department to respond.
By 11:15 a.m., the fire was contained.
No one was injured and no homes were damaged.
Victoria County Fire Marshal Ron Pray said people who plan to burn should trim tall grass and make sure they have water sources nearby before attempting to start a controlled burn.
Victoria County Judge Don Pozzi temporary lifted the burn ban Monday.
