Food service inspections

The Victoria City-County Health Department Environmental Health Division inspects places where food is served in Victoria, DeWitt, Jackson and Calhoun Counties.

In the inspection reports, each violation in the Food Temperature/Time Requirements category is 5 demerits; in the Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements category, 4 demerits; and in the Facility and Equipment Requirements, 3 demerits. Zero is a perfect score, while 100 demerits is the worst possible score.

Each Wednesday, the Advocate publishes inspection results from the previous week. All demerits are reported, but only those in the categories of Food Temperature/Time Requirements and Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements are detailed.

FOOD SERVICE INSPECTIONS FOR WEEK ENDING Jan. 13

Cuero One Stop, 710 N. Esplanade St., Cuero. Demerits: 18. Ice bags need labels. Need to date label Deli Express sandwiches. Need hot water at hand sink in restroom, the two-compartment sink and mop sink. Two facility or equipment violations.

Taqueria Guadalajara No. 9, 2301 N. Ben Jordan St., Victoria. Demerits: 14. Cover all items in cooler. Store raw meat below salsa. Two facility or equipment violations.

Sweet Mary's Bakery, 508 E. Broadway St., Cuero. Demerits: 12. Improper cold hold temperature. Need to keep time on sausage rolls out at room temperature. One facility or equipment violation.

Dos Hermanos Mexican Cafe, 106 E. Houston Highway, Edna. Demerits: 12. Improper cold hold temperatures. Unit freezing up. Will return to check table top. Employee drinks need to be in spill-proof containers, below or away from food preparation surfaces.

Pizza Hut No. 022652, 3404 N. Navarro St., Victoria. Demerits: 12. Ice machine needs cleaning. Four facility or equipment violations.

Old-Fashioned Donuts, 909 W. Main St., Edna. Demerits: 11. Need to use an approved labeling system. Need to employ good hygienic practices.

Snowflake Donuts, 1205 W. Grand Ave., Yoakum. Demerits: 11. Discard jar of jalapenos that has not been refrigerated after opening. Need to keep hot and cold water on at all times. Repair cold water at the three-compartment sink. One facility or equipment violation.

Mi Ranchito Restaurant, 1602 N. Ben Wilson St., Victoria. Demerits: 10. Need time and temperature documentation on foods out at room temperature. One facility or equipment violation.

Wienerschnitzel No. 119, 1218 E. Rio Grande St., Victoria. Demerits: 10. Need to use gloves when touching buns and cheese. Two facility or equipment violations.

Break Time, 1908 N. Laurent St., Victoria. Demerits: 8. Improper cold hold temperatures. One facility or equipment violation.

Napoleon's, 2806 N. Navarro St., Victoria. Demerits: 7. Date label cut fruit and turkey and ham in coolers. One facility or equipment violation.

Sonic Drive-In No. 3070, 3004 N. Navarro St., Victoria. Demerits: 7. Wear gloves when handling ready-to-eat foods (buns). Need paper towels at hand-washing sink.

Corner Stop, 1011 N. Highway 77-A, Yoakum. Demerits: 7. Need to date label hot pockets. Clean and sanitize the ice machine, cabinets and drawers in kitchen and container used to store clean utensils. One facility or equipment violation.

Pizza Hut, 1010 N. Esplanade St., Cuero. Demerits: 6. Two facility or equipment violations.

Christ's Kitchen, 611 E. Warren St., Victoria. Demerits: 6. Two facility or equipment violations.

Quality Packers, 702 E. Convent St., Victoria. Demerits: 6. Two facility or equipment violations.

Airline Express, 2000 E. Airline Road, Victoria. Demerits: 4. Medication must be sold in original packaging.

Domino's Pizza, 2007 N. Laurent St., Victoria. Demerits: 4. Do not store anything in hand sink. Seal any holes in the walls.

America's Best Value Inn, 1006 E. Houston Highway, Edna; Dairy Queen, 610 Highway 77-A, Yoakum; Moo Moo Food Mart, 101 E. Gonzales St., Yoakum. Demerits: 3.

Alexander Adult Activity Center, 111 Alexander St., Cuero; Coffee Depot Drive Thru, 1505 N. Esplanade St., Cuero; McAlisters Sweet Shop, 103 N. Hunt St., Cuero; Church's Fried Chicken, 110 E. Houston Highway, Edna; Cowboy Barbecue Inc., 907 N. East St., Edna; Garfield Shooting Club, Garfield; A Taste Above, 872 Lindenau Road, Lindenau; Broadway Bar, 208 Broadway, Nordheim; Nordheim Shooting Club, 101 W. 9th St., Nordheim; Club Essence, 1418 E. RE-INSPECTIONS

Tejas Cafe, 1602 N. Esplanade St., Cuero, inspected Dec. 20, with 17 demerits. Re-inspected Jan. 5, needing to follow up on leak under the three-compartment sink. Shelving in cooler in front storage needs cleaning.

Break Time, 1908 N. Laurent St., Victoria, inspected Jan. 5, with 8 demerits. Re-inspected Jan. 10, all violations corrected.

Buffet City, 9104 Navarro St., Victoria, inspected Dec. 16, with 31 demerits. Re-inspected Jan. 6, needing to continue to work on hand washing and employee drinks. Mechanical dish machine was 10 ppm and needs to be 50-100 ppm. Pest Control came out on Dec. 1 and Dec. 12. All other violations corrected.

China Pantry, 7804 N. Navarro St., Victoria, inspected Dec. 2, with 37 demerits. Re-inspected Jan. 6, all violations corrected.
