A former Bexar County sheriff's deputy arrested in Victoria is accused of impersonating a public servant, a third-degree felony.
A.J. Mukai, 43, was arrested 9 a.m. Jan. 12 in the 1000 block of East Airline Road after a traffic stop by a Victoria County sheriff's deputy, said Chief Deputy Terry Simons.
"He told the deputy who stopped him that he was a sergeant in the Bexar County Sheriff's Office," said Simons.
"He was terminated from there in 2007 and is not a licensed police officer."
Mukai had a Bexar County Sheriff's Office badge on his belt and a .357-caliber Magnum on his hip, Simons said.
Simons described Mukai's actions as "odd."
"We don't know if he was up to something or what," he said.
Simons said that some former law enforcement officers find it difficult to let go of the profession.
In addition to the charge of impersonating a public servant, Mukai was charged with unlawfully carrying a weapon and false identification as a police officer.
He posted a $52,500 bond and was released from Victoria County jail.
If convicted on the felony charge, Mukai could face up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

January 19, 2012 at 11:25 p.m.I totally agree with with you---------BUT---the deck is definitely stacked against him. Maybe probation and counseling-AT HIS COST-would be more effective than incarceration-IF it goes that far..............................
---------------------------oh, well-------------------------------------------------------------------
whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty...no one knows the life of a person until you've walked a mile in his/her shoes. our justice system is the most corrupt system in this country. "judge not lest ye be judged" remember that when it is your turn to be judged
January 19, 2012 at 10:33 a.m.So this guy was terminated about 4 years ago and he just now got arrested, what has he been up to until now? Sounds like this guy has been running some sort of scam, if he had balls enough to tell a real officer that he also an officer, its highly likely he was diverting attention from the real source of his activity, I would certainly run this guy through a fine toothed comb......but this is just me, certainly not telling anybody what to do
January 19, 2012 at 10 a.m.How many politicians are impersonating public servants?
January 19, 2012 at 9:36 a.m.I MISSED THIS ONE ! I didn't visualize him with glasses--instead, I saw a
CAPE and a MASK!
-----door slam----lock locked---------------AWAY !!!!!!-----------------------------------
---------------------------oh, well.-----------------------------------------------------------------
January 19, 2012 at 7:21 a.m.sounds like a brain evaluation is in order for this guy. A complete workup on this one needs to be done. I see time in the slammer if our DA Mr. Taylor has anything to do with it.
January 19, 2012 at 6:05 a.m.And if I might add. Don't always mean to come off real harsh or mean to anyone, but it is what it is and a lot of times you just have to be real. What if yourn or mine teenage daughter gets stopped by this nut? I know someone might rip me for this post, but ask me again when I give a rats patoot! Man, I crack me up again. I don't always comment, but when I do, my name is Ricardo!
January 19, 2012 at 12:40 a.m.I was wanting to see a pic of this guy, and what do you know. Just as I visualized it. Little pathetic guy that probably got his lunch money stolen when he was in school, then became a cop to get back at the world. Then wasn't man enough to be a cop. Was terminated and is not a licensed peace officer. Then went on and claimed to be a Sargent in Bexar County when got pulled over. People, we need to watch out for folks like this. They are everywhere. Make the 90% of good cops look bad.
