Texas Department of Public Safety troopers seized more than $300,000 in cash during a traffic stop on Monday.
About 4:11 p.m., a DPS trooper stopped a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee that was southbound on U.S. Highway 77 near Coleto Creek on suspicion of two traffic violations, said DPS Trooper and Public Information Officer Gerald Bryant.
Upon stopping the vehicle, the trooper observed "numerous indicators of criminal activity," Bryant said.
After the trooper obtained verbal consent to search the vehicle, Ulrich, a DPS narcotics dog, was called to the scene.
Ulrich alerted troopers to 11 packages hidden in the Jeep's left rear quarter panel and rear door hatch.
The packages contained $334,030 in cash.
Juan Carlos Campos, 37, of Alton, was arrested on suspicion of money laundering over $200,000, a first-degree felony.
Campos was traveling from Houston to Brownsville.
He was taken to the Victoria County Jail.
As of Tuesday afternoon, Campos was still in jail.
