The Diane Rehm Show on NPR today had an excellent interview with two legal experts on Constitutional rights, private property tradition, and the history of eminent domain. One point: because of Supreme Court decision a few years ago, eminent domain can be invoked for projects that are for public use (railroads and highways) but also for projects from which the public will just benefit.

do not carry the Diane Rehm Show, an excellent source of unbiased,
scholarly discussion on many subjects of significance to American public life. Perhaps they should consider it. In the meantime, it can be listened to on-line through some npr stations websites.
