Food service inspections

The Victoria City-County Health Department Environmental Health Division inspects places where food is served in Victoria, DeWitt, Jackson and Calhoun Counties.

In the inspection reports, each violation in the Food Temperature/Time Requirements category is 5 demerits; in the Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements category, 4 demerits; and in the Facility and Equipment Requirements, 3 demerits. Zero is a perfect score, while 100 demerits is the worst possible score.

Each Wednesday, the Advocate publishes inspection results from the previous week. All demerits are reported, but only those in the categories of Food Temperature/Time Requirements and Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements are detailed.



FOOD SERVICE INSPECTIONS FOR WEEK ENDING JAN. 27

Dragon Palace, 5223 N. Navarro St., Victoria. Demerits: 25. Improper cold hold temperature. Keep food covered in walk-in. Keep times of food sitting out at room temperature. Evidence of insect contamination. Four facility or equipment violations.

Jenny's Tacos, 220 W. Morris St., Yoakum. Demerits: 18. Improper cold hold temperature. Use gloves when handling ready-to-eat foods. Store raw meat below eggs. Work on date labeling with seven-day use-by date. Two facility or equipment violations.

Subway, 412 W. Grand St., Yoakum. Demerits: 15. Wash hands before putting gloves on. Use hand washing sink for hand washing only. Use gloves when cutting tomatoes. One facility or equipment violation.

Mi Tierra Mexican Cafe, 401 Lott St., Yoakum. Demerits: 14. Cover all foods in walk-in cooler. Date label all prepared hot foods with seven-day use-by date. Two facility or equipment violations.

Get and Go Food Mart No. 2, 508 Irvine St., Yoakum. Demerits: 12. Kool Aide Jammers can't be sold individually. Ice bags need proper labels. Need to store raw meat below other food.

Tiger Tote No. 7, 608 U.S. Highway 77-A, Yoakum. Demerits: 12. Improper cold hold temperature. Sausage rolls not kept hot at 135 degrees. Keep time log on sausage rolls if not kept at 135 degrees; date label ready-to-eat, potentially hazardous foods with a seven-day use-by date. One facility or equipment violation.

Hunan Garden, 2119 N. Esplanade St., Cuero. Demerits: 11. Keep baby out of the kitchen area. Store raw meats below other food. Wipe down droppings in back storage area shelves. One facility or equipment violation.

Cervantes Restaurant, 318 Front St., Yoakum. Demerits: 11. Cover food in cooler. Date label food with seven day use-by date. One facility or equipment violation.

The Texan No. 2, 207 E. Main St., Yorktown. Demerits: 10. Need labels on bagged ice. Two facility or equipment violations.

The Texan No. 3, 503 W. Main St., Yorktown. Demerits: 10. Ice bags need proper labels. Two facility or equipment violations.

Bayside Seafood, 4202 N. Navarro St., Victoria. Demerits: 7. Cover food in the cooler. One facility or equipment violation.

Target Store T-888, 7608 Zac Lentz Parkway, Victoria. Demerits: 7. Expired milk and yogurt. One facility or equipment violation.

I Stop No. 2, 101 Industrial Blvd., Cuero. Demerits: 6. Two facility or equipment violations.

Subway, 601 E. Broadway St., Cuero. Demerits: 6. Need to clean ice dispenser. Two facility or equipment violations.

The Pump House Riverside Restaurant, 1201 W. Stayton St., Victoria. Demerits: 5. Improper cold hold temperature.

Bahnhof Cafe, 213 W. Main St., Cuero. Demerits: 4. Need to use gloves when cutting tomatoes.

Victoria Donuts, 3805-C N. Navarro St., Victoria. Demerits: 4. Capri Suns not labeled for individual sale, keep in box. One facility or equipment violation.

Yorktown Conoco, 246 E. Main St., Yorktown. Demerits: 4. Need hot water at hand sink.

Smolik's, 523 S. Esplanade St., Cuero; Arby's, 2601 N. Navarro St., Victoria; Starbucks in Target T-0888, 7608 Zac Lentz Parkway, Victoria. Demerits: 3.

Kids Clubhouse, 210 Dunn St., Cuero; Striedel's Fine Meats, 359 Taylor Road, Cuero; Schwan's Home Service, Port Lavaca; Citizen's Health Plex, 9406 Zac Lentz Parkway, Victoria; Jack in the Box No. 4780, 5229 N. Navarro St., Victoria; Little Caesar's Pizza, 5309 N. Navarro St., Victoria; Noah's Ark Christian Daycare North, 7005 N. Navarro St., Victoria; Schwan's Home Service, 501 Anthony Road, Victoria; Shipley Donuts, 1406 E. Rio Grande St., Victoria; Shooters, 4102 N. RE-INSPECTIONS

Cuero One Stop, 710 N. Esplanade St., Cuero, inspected Jan. 5, with 18 demerits. Re-inspected Jan. 23, most violations corrected. Still need 2012 permit.

Get and Go Food Mart, 301 E. Broadway St., Cuero, inspected Dec. 20, with 24 demerits. Re-inspected Jan. 18, waiting on labels to come in for ice bags. Need 2012 permit. Other violations corrected.

Pizza Hut, 1010 N. Esplanade St., Cuero, inspected Jan. 5, with 6 demerits. Re-inspected Jan. 18, improper hot hold temperature. Will put ice under cut vegetables to help unit on left side.

Sweet Mary's Bakery, 508 E. Broadway St., Cuero, inspected Jan. 5, with 12 demerits. Re-inspected Jan. 18, with improper cold hold temperature. Moving prepared hot foods to little cooler up front; also getting ice chest to fill with ice and store food in it until unit is fixed. Called repairman to fix unit. At time of inspection, the unit had ice built up on it. Re-inspected Jan. 20, all violations corrected.

Tejas Cafe, 1602 N. Esplanade St., Cuero, inspected Dec. 20, with 17 demerits. Re-inspected Jan. 18, all violations corrected.

Dragon Palace, 5223 N. Navarro St., Victoria, inspected Jan. 19, with 25 demerits. Re-inspected Jan. 23, most violations corrected. Still need to keep food covered in walk-in. Also, do not store food in thank-you bags.

Los Reyes Mexican Grill, 6908 N. Navarro St., Victoria, inspected Dec. 20, with 36 demerits. Re-inspected Jan. 24, most violations corrected.

The Pump House Riverside Restaurant, 1201 W. Stayton St., Victoria, inspected Jan. 19, with 5 demerits. Re-inspected Jan. 24, all violations corrected.
