Three teens arrested, charged with bashing mailboxes
Three teenagers were detained Friday on suspicion of damaging more than 50 mailboxes in Lavaca County last week.
A 17-year-old girl and two 16-year-old boys were charged with damaging 54 mailboxes during the nights of July 8 and July 9 at several locations west and south of Hallettsville, according to a news release from the Lavaca County Sheriff's Office.
Investigator Ed Vaccaro said the teenagers confessed and attributed the vandalism to having "nothing better to do," according to the release.
The three spent the weekend in the Victoria County Juvenile Detention Center. Following a Monday hearing, they were released to their parents.
Damages to the mailboxes are estimated at $1,200.
The teenagers are facing Class A misdemeanor criminal mischief charges punishable by up to one year in jail and fines of up to $4,000.
They are expected to appear in juvenile court at a later date, said Lavaca County Sheriff Micah Harmon.
