Family sets up memorial account for Edna wreck victim

Family members of Michael Villela have set up an account with TDECU to help pay for his funeral expenses.

Villela, 38, was killed in a one-vehicle wreck Saturday morning near Yoakum.

He was ejected from an 18-wheeler after it crashed into a tree on Alternate U.S. Highway 77 in DeWitt County between Cuero and Yoakum.

Villela was driving a truck for Basic Energy Services and was pronounced dead at the scene.

He leaves behind his wife, Desirey Hernandez and six children ages 2-15 years old.

Loved ones described him as a devoted husband and committed father.

"He really was an amazing dad and husband, said his sister-in-law Heather Wood. "He worked hard to make sure his family had everything."

The funeral is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Oaklawn Funeral Home in Edna.

Villela will be buried at Memory Gardens in Edna.
