David Matthews managed to post the high series for the week by starting Rolling Thunder League action with a 246 high game.

He failed to maintain his high strike rate the last two games, but still bowled games of 217 and 189 to finish with a 652 total and earn the weekly honors.

Mike Osterson bowled a 254 high game in the same league, contributing toward a 645 set for second high.

Other scores of note for the men were Craig Hoff (258), Justin Smith (258), Robert Pfeil (257), Ben Mooney (256) and Mike Stacy (249).

It is good to see Hoff back on the lanes after having surgery earlier this year.

Olivia Jackson continues to lead the women's high score race during the summer. She has the high series several times in the last five weeks.

She rolled high game of 225 and 204, helping toward a 598 set in Rolling Thunder competition.

Upcoming

The Victoria USBC Association will hold its annual awards presentation dinner at Vera Cruz Restaurant on Saturday, July 28, at 7 p.m.

Hall of Fame inductees Juanita Rigamonti, Barbara Bridges, Chris Guerra and Lee Caballero will be honored. Also receiving honors will be scholarship winners and the four VUSBC directors elected this year. It is open to the public, so anyone can attend and support a hall of fame nominee.

For the first time, the dinner will be open to the general public for a cost of $15 per person and includes a steak dinner with trimmings.

If you wish to attend, contact Jim Mooney at 361-550-6917 by July 25.

Senior League

Woodlawn Lanes is trying to restart its senior league in the fall on Wednesday afternoons at 1 p.m.

The goal is to have three- or four-member teams, starting the last week in August with a great prize fund.

Contact Norm Watkins at 361-576-9605 or Steve Gritta at 361-894-7418 if you are interested in bowling.

USBC Memberships

To help with the cost of the annual USBC membership dues and increase association membership, Century Lanes and the Victoria USBC will team up to reimburse $5 to any new member and $5 to the recruiter of the new member, starting with the fall season on August 1.

A new member is defined as someone who has not bowled in sanctioned competition or one who has not had a USBC card for the last two years.

The refund will be made after the new member has bowled at least 21 games.
