Search for man from high-speed chase suspended

Emer Cardenas, 17.

At least one man is still on the loose after a Suburban led police on a high-speed chase Wednesday morning.

Three of the men were arrested around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, after they were found walking on a ranch off Nursery Road in the area of U.S. 87 where they wrecked the vehicle.

Officers found 600 pounds of marijuana in the Suburban.

The three men arrested - Emer Cardenas, 17; Ublester Augilaira Peneda, 23; and Jugo Mendoza, 20, no cities of residences available - have been charged with possession of marijuana between 50 and 2,000 pounds and evading arrest or detention with a car.

Officers searched the area on horseback and with dogs until dark on Wednesday and continued again Thursday morning, said Terry Simons, Victoria County Sheriff's Office chief deputy.

A fifth person could have possibly been in the SUV, but officers are not sure.

The fourth man was last seen wearing white or yellow shorts in the area of Nursery Road and Fordtran Road. If people see a suspicious man in the area, they are encouraged to call 911.
