Emily Kossa named National Merit Scholar

Emily Kossa, valedictorian at Sacred Heart Catholic High School in Hallettsville, has been named a National Merit Scholar.

Kossa was involved in numerous activities throughout her high school career. As an athlete, she was on the volleyball, basketball, swim, softball, tennis and track teams. Kossa was also drum major her junior and senior years and placed in the state band competition all four years. She has played the flute, guitar, piano, and organ at various churches.

She is planning to attend Texas A&M University in College Station and plans to major in molecular and cell biology. She has been offered the National Merit Texas A& M scholarship sponsored by Texas A&M. Kossa has also received a National Merit Recognition Award scholarship, president's endowed Scholarship, Craig and Galen Brown Scholarship and Opportunity Award scholarship all from Texas A&M. She received local scholarships from Fayette Electric, K.J.T., American Legion Post 230 and Yoakum A&M Club.

Kossa is one of 400 incoming freshmen to be accepted into the honors program at Texas A&M and is one of 20 honors students selected to go on The Champe-Fitzhugh Honors Leadership Seminar in Italy.

She is the daughter of Mike and Linda Kossa of Ammannsville. Kossa attended Sacred Heart School in LaGrange and Saint Rose in Schulenburg before attending high school at Sacred Heart in Hallettsville.
