Generals fall to East Texas, fourth in a row

Trae Davis delivers a pitch against the East Texas Pump Jacks on Saturday. Davis pitched well, but the Generals couldn't muster any offense.

KILGORE - A wild pitch was all the Texas Collegiate League leading East Texas Pump Jacks needed on Saturday against the Victoria Generals.

East Texas center fielder John Williams scored in the bottom of the first on a wild pitch by Victoria starter Trae Davis and the Pump Jacks beat the Generals 1-0 at Driller Park.

The loss was Victoria's fourth in a row. The game was called by the umpire crew in the top of the seventh because of lightning in the area.

The loss drops Victoria to 24-15, while East Texas improves to 30-11. The Generals are 5-5 in the second half standings, 1 1/2 games behind Brazos Valley, while East Texas is 6-5 and one game behind the Bombers.

Davis struck out three, allowed one hit and one earned run in five innings of work. He falls to 1-2 on the season.

Victoria was held to five hits as Billy Richard paced the offense going 2-for-3 with a double.

East Texas starter Kyle Kubat improves to 5-0 on the season after striking out five Generals and allowing five hits in six innings.

The Generals return to Riverside on Sunday for a three-game series against The Woodlands Strykers.

The series opens with a Sunday doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. and concludes on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
