Oceans For Emotions: God made a stage of ocean for every stage of people
"And God called the dry land earth and the gathering together of the waters called He Seas and God saw it was good."
- Genesis 1:10
OK, readers, you better put on your chest-high waders to read this article because it is going to be very deep.
As I was sitting beside the sea and the fish were taking a break, I stopped watching my popping cork long enough to look out over all the sea water I could see. And I just wanted to ask God this simple question, "God, why did you make the seas and make so much of them?"
I knew that approximately 71 percent of the Earth is covered by seas and that 80 percent of the people that live on the Earth live within 30 miles of the seas. From this, it is easy to determine that the people you made in your image like the seas as much as you do.
The scriptures tell us that the people you made were suppose to take care of the earth - plant it, water it, gather it and work at it. But with the seas, he put all the living creatures in the seas for us just to have dominion over them. The seas presented a free lunch to those who caught them.
God went so far as to design the seas with all of his future people in mind. He made the sandy beaches for the babies to lie upon. The tiny shallow waves for the pre-k children to stomp in. The deeper waves for the kindergarten through fifth grade to run in and the guts and bars for the middle schoolers to dare each other to cross.
And the high school kids to get out far enough to pretend that they couldn't hear their parents calling them to get out, the adults work and fish in your blue water to catch big fish out of big boats and win big trophies. God made a stage of ocean for every stage of people.
No wonder God, when you saw the seas, you said, "That's good!"
Dear Lord, when I saw my cork go down near the shell and mud reef, I switched to the here and now and brought in a beautiful redfish that You had prepared for me. I held it up in my dip net and said, "God, now that's good."
