M.O.V.E. Dance Camp dancers cheer on instructors Dacia James-Lewis, left, and Cindy Minowa as they show off some of their moves during camp Wednesday at Studio 85 in Galveston. The instructors of the camp taught the girls dance moves, some history of dance and encouraged them to follow their dreams.

When Dacia James-Lewis first started out in dance, her childhood instructor said, "You'll never be a dancer." The 30-year-old Victoria resident, was at the time, what the instructor described as knock-kneed.

But a passion for dance was already fostering inside her, and her relationship with the Lord and her church was guiding her to stick it out.

For years, James-Lewis pushed herself to excel at dance. Her knees eventually evened out, and her unwillingness to give up eventually set the stage for her to become one of Hollywood's newest go-to choreographers for television, music videos and film. In the past eight years, she's worked alongside and choreographed for recording music A-listers like Usher, Jennifer Hudson, Kanye West and the Black Eyed Peas.

In 2008, she formed Pretty Gyrl Productions, comprised of professional dancers who train and teach at some of the top dance studios in Los Angeles.

A few weeks ago, James-Lewis looked up that dissenting childhood dance instructor and sent her a message on Facebook.

"Hey, it's Dacia - your old knock-kneed dance student."
