Extending at bats, drawing walks and getting runners on is part of what makes for a offensive good game.
The other part involves getting runners home. That's what the Victoria Generals didn't do on Sunday at Riverside Stadium.
Despite getting seven runs on seven hits, the Generals dropped a home game to the Aces 10-7 on Sunday.
Trent Wagner hit his fourth home run of the season off the scoreboard in left field, but the Generals couldn't overcome stranding 12 runners against the Aces.
"When you get runners on second and third with less than two outs, we've got to find a way to get them in," Wagner said.
Victoria left the bases loaded in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings, while defensively committing four errors.
"A bad day," said Generals coach Chris Clemons. "We didn't find a way to get the runners in when we needed to and there were a couple of key defensive plays that added to innings along with bad pitches."
The loss drops Victoria's record to 26-20 while Alexandria improves to 21-25. The teams will play the rubber game of the three-game series on Monday at Riverside Stadium.
Victoria starter Jordan Pacheco ended the night with a loss after seven innings of work. The Victoria West graduate struck out five batters and allowed three earned runs on eight hits.
Early on the signs pointed to a tough night for Victoria and the inability to catch a break carried on the rest of the game.
The Aces led off the game with a seeing-eye single to right then got deposited a pair of softly hit balls to right field to take a 3-0 lead after the first half-inning.
Victoria flied into a pair of double plays outs in the second and third while the Aces used three unearned runs to double their lead to 6-0 in the fourth.
Pacheco's record drops to 5-2. He entered the game second in the TCL in strikeouts and now has a total of 47 on the season.
"Some ground balls found holes, but his location wasn't as good tonight as it had been in the past and that's what's going to happen," Clemons said.
The coach added that he'd take three runs in seven innings from Pacheco every time out.
Short stop Brandon Tierney and center fielder Trent Wagner got the Generals on the borad with bases loaded walks in the bottom of the sixth to cut the Aces lead to 6-2. The Generals lineup went 0 for 6 with the bases loaded.
Alexandria starter Jarret Johnson picks up the win after going giving up three hits and striking out four batters in five innings.
Wagner went 1-for-4 with 3 RBIs while catcher Eric Weiss was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles.
