Bailey wins Goliad Precinct 3 commissioner GOP nomination
(GOLIAD COUNTY TOTAL)
Ronald Bailey earned the Republican Party nomination Tuesday for Goliad County commissioner Precinct 3.
He beat incumbent Jim Kreneck with 51 percent of the vote.
"I hope to bring about a big positive change within Goliad County," Bailey said. "Hopefully, I can do what the county wants done in a timely manner, routinely, and be able to work with the other commissioners and the county judge. I hope to bring economic development, hold taxes down and get the roads taken care of to make Goliad what everybody wants it to be."
The two got the most votes in a field of four candidates in the May primary. They met in the runoff election Tuesday.
Bailey will not have a Democratic opponent in the November election.
Kreneck was investigated in July for altering time cards on July 4 and July 5. Kreneck said he did allow his crew to work July 4 and have July 5 off, but he maintains that he did not alter timecards.
The investigation was dropped, however, on July 20. County Judge David Bowman said the behavior was deemed "inappropriate, but not illegal."
Bailey asserted that he would not change timecards if he were elected.
Kreneck served as commissioner for 12 years and hoped to bring his experience back to the office. Kreneck was not available for comment Tuesday evening.
