BAY CITY - A 60-year-old man shot himself in the chest early Friday as Bay City police tried to talk to him about a fire at a storage facility in the 4900 block of Seventh Street, according to a news release from the police department.
Officers went to the area to investigate a report of a suspicious fire at the storage area.
While there, they saw the man driving his 2003 Dodge pickup and stopped him in the 900 block of Seventh Street. He shot himself in the chest while in the truck, according to the release.
The man, whose name was not released by police, was taken to Matagorda Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
