In last month's Art Corner I said I wish I had taken Jim Feig's digital photography class before my wife Susan and I took our dream vacation to Hawaii for our 40th anniversary.
Well, this month I did just that. I learned so much from Jim's class and have already taken many pictures that I hope to use as inspiration for many oil and watercolor paintings.
We had a full class but Jim still let me in.
This Saturday we are going to take a field trip and do some 'on the spot 'photography to practice what we have learned with Jim close by to answer questions or help if needed.
If you are like me and didn't get to take Jim's last class or read this and would like to, he is going to offer another basic digital photography class this month starting Tuesday from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Then in July, he will offer a follow up class for those who want to learn more.
Just contact Jim at 361-576-0578.
Also in July, William Vickery will teach a stained glass class for five Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon starting July 7. There has been some interest in the past so we are pleased to finally offer this. Contact William at 361-235-2416 if interested or if you have any questions.
Also in July, I will be offering two beginning classes and one follow up class in pottery July 16-19, 25, and 27. Contact me at 361-575-3216 for information.
Roddy Wilson will be our Artist of the Month for June. There will be a special display of his works in the gallery this month and a reception for him at 2 p.m. June 10, before our meeting.
At 2:30 p.m. we will have a brief meeting followed by a demonstration by Peggy Yandell on the "Art Element of Space - The Tricks of Perspective." You are all invited to this interesting demonstration by Peggy.
This is going to be a busy month with our continued restoration projects. Thad Parker is replacing the stairs in back of our apartments. Home Depot is going to help us put down new flooring in our classroom this month. We are in the process of leveling our foundation under the classroom and the floor inside, adding plywood to the floor and then installing laminate flooring over that. New doors and windows are in the works so in the end we will have a more eco-friendly environment, (heating and cooling bills should go down). Yea!
We do all this while trying to retain the special character and charm of this place.
We want to thank all of the people, businesses, and grants that have enabled us to restore and will continue to help us restore our special old historic building.
Without our members and your help, none of this would be possible. Thank you Victoria.
