UHV seeks feedback on themes for improving student learning

The University of Houston-Victoria is asking for further feedback as it gets closer to developing a plan for its upcoming accreditation review by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
Community members and UHV alumni, faculty, staff and students are invited to take a short survey about possible themes for improving student learning at the university.
The survey is a follow up to one community members previously were asked to complete.

"We want to give our constituents another opportunity to become involved in this important accreditation process," UHV President Phil Castille said. "I invite all parties to share their perceptions, visions and opinions of UHV with us."
UHV previously surveyed community and campus groups, and gathered data about potential ways UHV could improve student learning. From this analysis, several potential themes emerged. These included increased faculty/student interaction through service learning, learning communities and problem-based learning; enhanced academic flexibility through course delivery; and greater course rigor. One of these themes could be used to guide development of the Quality Enhancement Plan that will be composed for the spring 2014 SACS accreditation review.
The new survey will give community members a chance to provide input about the potential themes. Those who take the survey are asked their level of agreement with different statements about improving student learning and can view more information about each potential theme.
After the data from the most recent survey are analyzed, recommendations will be presented to the UHV administration and shared governance for final selection as the lead topic for the Quality Enhancement Plan.
Although UHV already is accredited by SACS, member institutions must go through periodic reviews that show the university is continuing to provide quality education consistent with SACS guidelines. UHV's last SACS visit took place in 2003.
