For all of those who criticize the Victoria PD and the minor mistakes I've seen pointed out here in the comments, I ask, have you never been on the phone while driving? Do you know that to conduct their duties in serving the people of Victoria, the police on patrol have to use their own phones to contact the people they are trying to help? Furthermore, in an accident that they are having to report on, anything at fault would have needed to happen in their presence or view for them to give a citation? But if you were on your cellphone, and accidentally hit someone at your fault, and you are otherwise a good driver, don't you think your guilt is enough anyway? Do you think it would be fair for them to give you a citation if they didn't see you doing the wrong? This city has a lot going on in it crime wise, and we definitely do not have the enough cops on hand. Our boys are having to deal with 2-3 times the call load of a normal to even large size city. You don't see that happening because you don't hear it all. You want to understand fully as to what goes on? Go take a ride along. Go at night or during the day, it's the same either way. I personally have seen how an officer sometimes has to go from giving a citation to rushing across town to help with a shots fired call from a fellow officer. It will open your eyes at least a little bit.

Low speed accident. Brazoria men thought they were at fault initially. Once they learned otherwise....ouch....

Note to VicAd: Could you please do some indepth reporting and follow up on the investigation regarding this accident? In as much as the patrol car is owned by the taxpayers we would like to know the details as found by the VPD.

People People People!!!! It doesn't matter because VPD doesn't issue Citations for running stop signs, red lights or whatever the reasons have been in the past for causing accidents. LOL

Your point is well taken. Have observed much of the same. Some people are brainwashed in believing that just because it a city car that we don't have any idea what is going on. And its none of our business. Those Brazoria County men must have backed into the other car. First thing you do is deny everything. -

Looks like to you it's very easy to criticize police officers but I can't say it's a smart thing to do especially considering you have NO idea as to why the officer may have been running the red light. It's easy to jump on the bashing cops band wagon but boy when you need them I'm sure you won't hesitate to call. How about bashing the woman that is applying her makeup while driving or the man that's eating a burger while driving? No?? Instead let us constantly criticize the men and women that put their lives on the line for people like you. I once participated in a citizen ride along and was shocked at what goes on in this town and what our police officers have to deal with. It is a shame that these men and women do not receive the respect and courtesy they deserve. -

Mamaj,
How are you going to make a citizen's arrest for something that is not illegal? It's NOT against the law to be on a cell phone while driving and it's NOT against the Victoria Police Department's policy to be talking while driving.
This is typical, just another person out to make a dime...ouch my neck...

i have seen myself many vpd on their cell phones not adhering to the laws
June 4, 2012 at 12:15 p.m.
and what happens to them? can i make a citizens arrest? this is ridicoulous
that these so-called police officers here to protect and serve are the ones who are basically getting away with breaking the laws they are supposed to be upholding. its an embarrassment. -
drive around town and you'll see MANY vpd officers on the phone while driving.
i find it hard to believe that vpd's insurance carrier would be ok with this.

I don't remember seeing the originial article in the VicAd in December. Were there any citations given at the time of the accident? Any photos of the damage to the cars?
