  • Trials should be held in courtrooms - not in newspapers! How can his father get a fair trial after these gory details have been made public? I'm appalled at the insensitiviy shown by VA. Mr. Tyler's office has brought charges and the court will try the case but he's already been declared guilty by the sheriff, DA and newspaper. There should be a change of venue because of this kind of reportjng and actions by the officials involved!

  • The sheriff has no obligation to offer any information on a ongoing case and the Victoria Advocate has an obligation to inform the public of factual events. I think both acted in a very professional manner considering the emotional dynamics of this story.

  • I believe the previous headlines stating a young boy was mauled to death by a pitbull probably more than conveyed the violent death poor kylar suffered. What you've done here is nothing short of a trashy tabloid story. It shows a lack of respect for the deceased and the family. While Tyler may not have contacted the advocate I promise he was ready for the call. It shows a lack of class and professionalism on all parts. Personally I'd expect more from Texas' second oldest newspaper.

  • The full autopsy report only recently became available. We requested it as part of our routine follow-up on the sad case. We asked the district attorney for comment; he did not come to us. We withheld many graphic details in the autopsy and reported only what we thought was essential to the understanding of the case.

  • I'm so glad that Tyler is so forthcoming with statements to the public. No one in the sheriff's department, nor the DA's office has seen fit to share any details of autopsy findings with the family. It's sad to see such tactics from our city officials, all this is is a tactic to poison the jury pool now that Johnson is being charged in his sons death. It's obvious by the fact that none of these details were ever mentioned before, apparently the people have a right to know just not until its beneficial to the DA. Sadly I expect nothing less from the corrupt Victoria officials and newspaper.

  • Advocate,

Were these grisly details publicly necessary?

All you had to report was that the autopsy confirmed the death was due to the Pit Bull.

All the nasty little details was just sick sensationalism of a horrible situation.
