Officials investigate two vehicle fires

Victoria firefighters responded to two automobile fires Wednesday morning.

At 5:03 a.m., Victoria firefighters were dispatched to the 2800 block of Allendale Street, where a 2002 GMC Sierra pickup was on fire.

Victoria Fire Marshal Tom Legler said the cause is under investigation.

The truck was a total loss, Legler said.

Thirty minutes later, firefighters responded to another vehicle fire, this one near the intersection of Raab and Love roads in the Nursery area, said Victoria Fire Department Battalion Chief Roger Hempel.

Victoria County Fire Marshal Ron Pray said the Dodge Neon was previously reported stolen and was completely burned by the time a passerby reported to authorities.

"This was an arson," he said, noting no one was on the scene or in the area when investigators arrived. "It was abandoned and burned."

Pray said the incident remains under investigation and that, at this time, investigators do not consider the two fires related.

"But at this point we're not counting anything out," he said.

Pray encouraged people with information regarding the fires to contact either the county fire marshal's office at 361-579-9103 or Victoria Crime Stoppers at 361-572-4200.
